Single-use NPWT / sNPWT
Definition: The single-use NPWT (sNPWT) is one of main types of negative pressure wound therapy. This type can be typically chosen for smaller wounds with moderate to low exudate.
The traditional NPWT can be continued with single-use NPWT (sNPWT; or pocket, cannister or cannister-free, mechanically powered, disposable, portable) based on the condition of the wound and patient. Some sNPWT devices are canister-free and handle fluid mainly through evaporation from the outer layer of the dressing. The pressure is applied continuously and is not usually adjustable. sNPWT devices are often battery powered and tend to be used in outpatient care or for patients with early hospital discharge plans.
The indications and the evidence behind them are constantly increasing in accordance with the new studies and growing popularity of this treatment method.
International groups of clinical specialists have shared their experiences of using single-use NPWT in the management of numerous wound types in various articles and documents.
An international group of specialist surgeons with extensive experience in NPWT convened to discuss its use today. The group used their own experiences and literatures to discuss the appropriate use of traditional and single use NPWT, and when and how to use them in complement with each other and other therapies. Also, an expert international panel of specialist surgeons with a high level of experience of NPWT aimed to evaluate and recommend where VivereX® (PAUL HARTMANN AG) single-use NPWT (sNPWT) is best used to achieve optimal clinical results.
